This bowl was made under the full moon in June 2026, namely the Strawberry Moon. I go into my studio when the moon is full each month, to connect with the power of the lunar cycle and try and capture this into my work. The bowls have been used for ceremonies and I believe they have a special quality being made at this time. I decorated this bowl over the following days after the full moon, with moon like textures, incorporating craters and hand made lava glazes to achieve the end result. It has been fired 4 times in total to get the effect I wanted. I will continue to throw bowls and cups during the full moons this year whenever possible. Each moon has its own name and qualities. The Strawberry Moon symbolises abundance, sweetness and the ‘ripening’ of personal goals. Arriving near the summer solstice it brings illumination and balance and it is also tied to love, passion and deep emotional healing. It has warm rich tones which seemed appropriate given the time of year and warmth when making this bowl and it incorporates wild clay from the garden alongside multiple clays.
