Ancient Tree Root Vessel

£980.00

This is in a series of works that I am currently studying around aged and ancient natural materials, in particular stone and wood. This piece was inspired by a study of tree roots and different bark in the woods next to my home on Dover’s Hill . I took multiple photos of the ancient trees and merged different elements from different specimens - a knot from one tree, lichen from another, a type of bark from another etc. All glazes are mixed from scratch and each piece has its own individual shape. No two pieces are alike and each piece takes several weeks from start to finish to achieve the build up of age and texture. This vessel has multiple sections of clay around the base to create a realistic knobbly tree root and is not water tight. You could place a glass vase inside or use dried display items (pheasant feathers included if you would like them) or just leave it open. The inside has a wonderful patina shown in the penultimate photo.
